HP-SVGC MONTHLY GOLF LEAGUE RULES

Play in the HP-SVGC monthly golf league will be governed by "THE RULES OF GOLF" as approved by THE UNITED STATES GOLF ASSOCIATION and THE ROYAL AND ANCIENT GOLF CLUB OF ST ANDREWS, SCOTLAND with the following option.

POINTS TO REMEMBER:

  1. All strokes taken from the teeing area until the ball is putted into the cup must be counted and recorded on the score card. No "GIMME PUTTS".
  2. You must play with someone in the HP-SVGC monthly league to have your score counted.
  3. Scorecards must contain first and last names. The card must be signed and attested to. It is the golfers responsibility to make sure the scores are added correctly. Scorecards will be checked and any errors corrected. Corrections will be made only if a score increases or is necessary for handicap corrections. Two scorecards must be submitted for each group of 4 players. Pair off into 2's and exchange cards. (Effective March 1993).
  4. Each person within a foursome is responsible for monitoring others of that foursome to comply with the U.S.G.A. or HP rules.

For more enjoyment of the game, the Board of Directors recommends you become familiar with the rules of Golf. A copy may be purchased at most Golf Pro shops or may be sent for by mail from:

United States Golf Association
Golf House, P.O. Box 3000
Far Hills, N.J. 07931

"RAINOUT" POLICY

The following is the HP Silicon Valley Golf Club "Rainout" Policy. If it is raining at the start of a tournament and the golf course is closed, the tournament will be canceled and the tournament will either be rescheduled or monies refunded depending on the contract with the golf course.

If it is raining at the start of a tournament, and the course is open, and we have a contract with the course which allows an option to play or not play, a decision will be made by the tournament committee as to whether or not to start play. This decision will be made on the basis of current conditions, forecast conditions, the current conditions of the golf course, the expected conditions of the course if rain continues and course drainage capabilities.

Once the decision has been made to play, the following policies will apply:

  1. Bad weather is not of itself a good reason for discontinuing play (Rule 6-8 of Rules of Golf).
  2. If the tournament committee considers that for any reason the course is not in a playable condition or that there are circumstances which render the proper playing of the game impossible, it may, terminate play. If play is terminated before the last group completes 9 holes, the tournament play will be declared null and void and cancel all scores for the round in question (Rule 33-2). If at least 9 holes have been completed by the last group, the tournament will become a 9 hole contest and one-half of the players index will be used to determine their handicap and their net score. Gross score will be the score for nine holes. Contests (long drive, closest to the pin, etc.) in which all players have competed will be considered complete and prizes will be awarded. If all players have not competed in a contest, that contest will be declared null and void and no prize will be awarded. Prizes not awarded for contests will be awarded through a lottery system of players in the tournament.
  3. The decision to terminate the tournament will be communicated as quickly as possible to all players on the course by a member of the tournament committee.
  4. Players may, at their own choosing, continue the round of golf for as long as they wish, but policy 2 above will apply to all scores, contests and awards.

The above policies regarding rain outs and Rules 33-2 and 6-8 may differ from NCGA and USGA implementations because the NCGA or the USGA have the abilities to resume a suspended round on the same or a later date, fix unplayable conditions on the golf course and resume play. HP SVGC does not have these abilities. (Changed 4/14/93)

REFUNDS

We guarantee the golf course a minimum of players for each monthly tournament. Therefore, if you pay your green fees for a tournament and then don't play, you will only receive a refund if the golf course refunds your green fee, less the $5.00 host fee. If you can arrange for another eligible person to take your place, call host with their name.  It is not the responsibility of HPSVGC to find you a replacement. If play is canceled and the tournament is not rescheduled, refund checks will be returned through inter-office mail.  [rev 02/15/03]

METHOD OF BREAKING TIES IN MONTHLY TOURNAMENTS

All ties WILL be broken. Compare cards - low NET of back nine, then last six holes, then last three holes, then last hole, then toss of a coin.

SCORECARDS

  1. Scorecards must have the first and last names and they must be signed by the scorer and attested to. Two scorecards must be submitted for each group of 4 players. Pair off into 2's and exchange cards. (Effective March 1993).
  2. Scorecards will be checked by Handicap Committee. Any errors will be corrected (scores will not be lowered ONLY increased--it is the golfers responsibility to make sure scores are added correctly). PLEASE CHECK YOUR ADDITION FOR GROSS, NET, AND BESTBALL SCORES CAREFULLY BEFORE TURNING THEM IN.
  3. Failure to turn in a properly completed scorecard and post the score on the HP-SVGC posting sheet will result in disqualification from the tournament.
